Her Story
Because nothing motivates us to stay healthy more than meeting other athletic women who do it all, Her Sports brings you the stories of everyday women just like you. If they can do it, so can you!
Name: Erin Winter
Sport: Mountain biking
Age: 26
Occupation: Graduate student in sociology and teaching
assistant, University of Georgia.
Where I live and play: Athens, Ga.; also play in
North Georgia Mountains.
Marital status: Attached
Kids: None yet!
Animals: My dog Brady attacks the trails with me
(that is, when it isn't so hot that if he runs after a deer, he'll
overheat).
First love (sport): Gymnastics
Favorite place to be active: In the mountains--North Carolina (Pisgah Forest) and north Georgia
Role model & why: Presently, my boyfriend, Jeff Shirey. He makes me a better person in ways I hope to emulate and to be able to do for others.
Ideal active weekend: Wake up late, do yoga, eat
pancakes with a lot of almonds and fruit, ride my mountain bike
on technical trails for the entire day, come home, make dinner,
watch a movie and go to bed. Repeat (as many times as possible).
Proudest active moment: Hopping my first log on
my bike (I have pictures to remind me of the moment.)
Best training tip: Take a few weeks to not
train; just play in your sport of choice. It will rekindle your
drive to focus and train, and ultimately make you more productive
while increasing your fun.
Gear I can't live without:My heart rate monitor.
As much as I hate to admit it, I love the thing.
Favorite pre-workout/race meal: Pancakes!
Sport I'd most like to try: Marathon running
When I'm not mountain biking, I'm: Studying or
doing yoga.
