Her Story-Meet Angela Horswill--a runner whose dog pushes her toward victory!

Her Story

Because nothing motivates us to stay healthy more than meeting other athletic women who do it all, Her Sports brings you the stories of women just like you. If they can do it, so can you!

Name: Angela Horswill

Sports: Running, slalom water-skiing, yoga, weight training and Spinning/biking

Age: 33

Occupation: Tradeshow & marketing coordinator

Where I live and play: Chico, Calif.

Marital status: Very happily married to the most handsome man in the world!

Kids? Not yet

Animals? Two dogs--one very active border collie/running partner and one black chow/lab lap dog

First love: Water-skiing. I started skiing when I was six and have had the competitive bug ever since.

Favorite place to be active: Bidwell Park in Chico--where there are more than 3,500 breathtaking acres to run!

Role model: Jesus, my parents and my husband. Jesus because he set an example by which to live; my father, because he pushed me farther than I ever thought possible and coached me with patience, discipline and by example; my mother because of her love, encouragement, wisdom and countless sacrifices (I can only hope to be that kind of mother); my husband because he has shown me how to put on my "game face" before races and stay mentally tough when I want to give up.

Ideal active weekend: A three-hour run in Upper Bidwell Park with my dog, Bear, followed by dinner at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and a great boxing match on HBO.

Proudest active moment: My last 10K in my hometown of Corning, Calif. The race director allowed my dog to run with me, and my father and stepmother were there to see us come in first place. I was so proud of my dog, and seeing his big smile during the race really helped me to relax and enjoy the moment.

Best training tip: Keep a training log. Sometimes you feel like you are just running in circles but when you see how far you have come over the years it is so rewarding!

Gear I can't live without: I rarely ever leave without my heart-rate monitor-- a great tool to keep me in the right training zone and at race pace.

Favorite pre-workout/race meal: Two pieces of toast with butter and a cup of coffee with a side of adrenaline

Sport I'd most like to try: Adventure racing with a team

When I'm not running, Spinning, water-skiing, I'm: Quilting, playing Frisbee with Bear or watching NFL/boxing or Law & Order with my husband
